Stewards not owners
We have the tendency to feel like the owners of the things God has given us. Thus, it's important for us to remember that we're only stewards of God's blessings.
A steward is a person who takes care of something. That's exactly who God wants us to be. With our lives, bodies, money, relationships, jobs etc.
In 1 kings 12, God made Jeroboam king over Israel and Rehoboam (king Solomon's son) king over the tribe of Judah. God have Jeroboam the 11 tribes to take care of and be their steward but he started to micromanage everything. He later turned them away from the Lord because He wanted to keep a kingdom that wasn't His in the first place.
That's why it's so important for us to realize that everything we think we own is the Lord's. The very breath we breathe is His.
Seeing ourselves as stewards is important because:
I relieves us of the pressure of “trying to make everything go right”. It isn't our place to micromanage every detail of our lives so that it goes well. I'm not saying don't plan. I'm saying leave space for God to be your master and leader.
It helps us deal with pride. If you're constantly aware that what you have is not yours but it was lent to you by God, then there will be no reason for you to feel prideful. “God, you gave me the gift of singing, the people are saying I sing really well o, thank you”.
It creates more room to be grateful. If all I have is God's, the I ought to be grateful to Him for them all.
It helps you become more aware of eternity. If I'm a steward, that means I'll give account to my master one day.
It helps you stress less about stuff. If I don't have money, God will replenish. I lost an opportunity, another one will come. One door closes, another one opens.
Trust God my friend…thank you for reading 💗
